FORT STEWART, Ga. (WTOC) - The U.S. Army Medical Department Activity for Fort Stewart and Winn Army Community Hospital held a change of command ceremony Wednesday morning.

Outgoing commander Col. Margaret Berryman passed the colors to incoming commander Col. Alex Montgomery. Berryman is set to take on the role of chief of staff at U.S. Army Medical Readiness Command, East, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Berryman honored for service

Berryman was awarded multiple awards and medals for her service as commander of U.S. Army Medical Department Activity-Fort Stewart.

“We call this the winning team for a reason, right? It’s because of every single member of this team that continues to show up each and every single day and provide exceptional care to our warfighters,” Berryman said.

Montgomery takes command

Montgomery said he has more than 20 years of experience and expressed gratitude for the opportunity ahead.

“The tempo here is like no other. They deploy, they train more than most divisions, so I’m excited to be a part of it and figure out how our team can best support and just be there for the units when they are ready to deploy,” Montgomery said.

Montgomery said he is honored for the opportunity to serve both soldiers and family members at Fort Stewart.
