Water main break closes intersection of Pennsylvania Ave. and East Gwinnett St., boil water advisory issued

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - City crews are responding to a damaged water main at Pennsylvania Avenue and East Gwinnett Street.

The break happened around 4 p.m. Monday after a fiber installer struck the main, according to the city.

The city has now issued a precautionary boil water advisory for residents along Gwinnett Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Minnesota Avenue. The advisory affects about 100 homes.

Residents in the affected area are advised to boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice or preparing baby formula until the advisory is lifted. Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute to ensure it is safe.

City staff are on site working to repair the break and restore water pressure.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
