UPDATE: Two lost swimmers near Ft. Pulaski Bridge found

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 10/04/26 AT 11:19 a.m.] Two people reported missing after attempting to swim from Tybee Island to Cockspur Island were located safely Saturday.

The Chatham County Police Department reported on its app just before 5:20 p.m. Saturday that marine patrol was searching for two lost people in the South Channel near Fort Pulaski Bridge. The Savannah Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard were also on scene to assist, according to the app notification.

A Coast Guard Station Tybee crew assisted Savannah Fire Department firefighters after receiving a report that the two swimmers had not returned.

The two swimmers were located on Long Island uninjured. The Savannah Fire Department transported them to Station Tybee.

The Coast Guard said it remains ready to respond alongside partner agencies to protect lives on the water.
