UPDATE: 1 injured after shooting at apartment complex on Hilton Head Island

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WTOC) - {UPDATE 8/2/26}: One person was injured after a shooting at an apartment complex on Hilton Head Island Saturday.

According to Mayor Alan Perry’s social media page Sunday, an argument between two adult males at Sandelwood Terrace apartment complex, escalated into gunfire outside the apartments.

Mayor Perry says one person sustained a gunshot wound to the lower extremities and was taken to the hospital. The second person went back into his apartment and refused to surrender to law enforcement.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was requested but before they arrived, the suspect exited his apartment and surrendered without further incident.

Mayor Perry says the suspect was charged with Attempted Murder and transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

No additional information has been released regarding the condition of the injured individual, and no other injuries were reported.

{ORIGINAL POST 8/1/26}: The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were investigating a shots-fired report in the area of Aquatera Apartments and Gardner Drive.

They said there was no threat to the public as of 10 p.m.
