SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - United Way of the Coastal Empire is in the final stretch of its community fund campaign, working to reach a $5.2 million goal to support local families.

Leaders gathered at the United Way office on Bull Street in Savannah to update donors, recognize the three most generous corporate donors and rally the community for a final push.

Money raised through the community fund helps pay for more than 80 programs at 50 nonprofit agencies and supports direct services like the 211 information line and county service centers, connecting neighbors with food, housing and other critical resources.

“We know that the community has immense needs and we want to be there to help support our families and our children and our students all across the region so we knew that we needed to work really hard this year and we’ve done just that,” United Way of the Coastal Empire CEO and President Kimberly Waller said. “And getting to 96 percent to goal is just amazing.”

United Way said the event is about showing the real-world impact of local giving and urging people across the region to keep donating and volunteering as this year’s campaign wraps up.
