Two hospitalized after house fire in downtown Beaufort

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - Two people were transported to a local hospital following a structure fire in downtown Beaufort Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., crews from the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department and the Lady’s Island–St. Helena Fire District responded to reports of a house fire on Washington Street.

Upon arrival, fire officers reported seeing black smoke pouring from the front door of the residence. Firefighters with the first arriving engine company quickly made entry into the home and extinguished the flames.

First responders confirmed that two occupants, an adult and a child, were inside the home when the fire broke out. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
