Town of Bluffton invites public to guide Old Town’s growth over next decade

BLUFFTON, S.C. (WTOC) — Bluffton leaders are turning to residents and business owners to help map out the future of the historic district.

The town is developing its 2027 Old Town Master Plan, a blueprint designed to steer zoning, preservation and development priorities through the next 10 years. Community members can weigh in during an open meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Rotary Community Center.

The upcoming plan follows the framework set in 2006, which drove key community projects such as the creation of Wright Family Park, broader access along the May River, pedestrian safety overhauls and the restoration of landmarks like the Garvin-Garvey House. Since then, roughly $6 million in public funds helped spark more than $70 million in private investment across the area.

Now, officials are focusing on managing that rapid growth without losing the historic appeal and local charm that define Old Town. The final plan is expected to wrap up by mid-2027.
