Suspect accused in string of Savannah home burglaries indicted

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A man previously arrested in connection with several Savannah-area home burglaries has now been indicted on multiple charges.

Chatham County court records show a grand jury indicted Meshawn Shamar Richardson on first-degree burglary charges connected to separate incidents reported in August and September 2025.

In another case, Richardson and James Monterio Jenkins were jointly indicted on charges of first-degree burglary and theft by taking. The indictment alleges the men entered a Savannah home in February 2026 intending to commit a theft.

Court records accuse the pair of taking jewelry and coins valued at more than $1,500.

Richardson was taken into custody in May with assistance from the Savannah Police Department and U.S. Marshals.

At the time, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Richardson was wanted in connection with several recent home burglaries. He was initially charged with first-degree burglary and obstruction.

An indictment is a formal accusation and does not indicate guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
