Standoff closes portion of Quacco Road as Chatham County Police investigates
CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Multiple law enforcement agencies spent hours Wednesday responding to a report of shots fired at a home near the intersection of Quacco Road and Berwick Lakes Boulevard, shutting down the area and backing up traffic.
Chatham County police said a suspect remained inside the home as tactical units were called in and a command post was set up. Pooler police assisted at the scene, along with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, fire crews and EMS.
Quacco Road remained closed for hours near Berwick Lakes Boulevard as officers worked, and drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
“I mean it’s scary. Just pray for everyone that’s involved in it and for the police officers and the emergency crew that are over there,” said Latonya Fortson, a Chatham County resident.
After the scene began to clear, Quacco Road reopened. Officers were later seen boarding up windows and doors at the home, with crime scene markers visible in the front yard as detectives spoke with neighbors.
Chatham County police are leading the investigation. Authorities have not released additional information about what led up to the incident or whether anyone will face charges.
This is a developing story. Stay with WTOC for updates.
