St. Helena man arrested for September mobile home park murder
BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested a St. Helena man Friday in connection with a murder at a mobile home park in September 2025.
Tyre Joe Atkins, 21, was arrested Jan. 16. He faces the following charges:
- Murder
- Attempted Murder
- Felon in Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime
- Aggravated Breach of Peace

Deputies identified Atkins as the suspect in the murder of 20-year-old Ty Haskell Jenkins IV of St. Helena Island, who was killed at the Independence Mobile Home Park on Sept. 10.
The case remains under investigation. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information to contact lead investigator Master Sergeant Duncan at 843-255-3418.
