SPD investigating shooting on West 31st Street, suspect turns himself in

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah Police Department was on the scene of a shooting on West 31st Street on Wednesday evening.

Police are currently investigating a shooting in the 600-block of West 31st Street. Officers responded to the scene around 6:15 p.m.

Once on scene, officers found someone shot in the leg. The male victim was transported to Memorial Health for treatment.

The Savannah Police Department later identified 51-year-old Weldon Roberts as a suspect in connection with the July 8th shooting on West 31st Street. Police say Roberts turned himself in to the Chatham County Detention Center on Thursday night.

Roberts is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The investigation is ongoing.
