Sheriff orders zero-tolerance speeding enforcement after 4 deaths in 30 days on Screven County roads

SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Screven County Sheriff Norman Royal has ordered deputies to take a zero-tolerance approach to speeding after four deaths on county roadways in the past 30 days.

Under the directive, drivers stopped for speeding will receive a citation, with no warnings issued until further notice.

“This isn’t about writing tickets,” Royal said. “It’s about preventing another family from receiving a knock on the door that changes their lives forever.”

Royal said the policy applies to everyone, “no matter who you are, who you know, or where you are going.”

Royal urged drivers to slow down, put their phones away, wear seat belts and pay attention to the road.

“A citation may be inconvenient,” Royal said. “Losing another member of our community is irreversible.”
