Seeing smoke over Savannah? Here’s why
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A number of WTOC viewers have reported seeing smoke over parts of the Coastal Empire Thursday afternoon.
The smoke is from a controlled burn operation taking place at Fort Stewart.
Officials at Fort Stewart confirmed the operation with WTOC. The area of the burn is 5 miles north of the Richmond Hill fire tower.
The predicated winds between 3-6 miles per hour are expected to cause smoke in several areas.
Controlled burns are a regular operation, and the smoke is no cause for alarm.
