SCCPSS rolls out new Choice Program application process with open houses

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is using a new Choice Program application process this school year, with open houses replacing the Student Success Expo, the school system said.

Open houses

Choice Program open houses start tonight at Choice Program schools across the district and run through Dec. 1, according to the school system. Families can learn more about the programs at the open houses.

Application window

The online application window opens Nov. 16 and closes Friday, Jan. 8. The school system said that gives families nearly two full months to consider their child’s interests and complete the application.

Families can rank up to three programs.

Wait list change

Families can accept a seat at a lower-ranked program and stay on the wait list for their higher choices if a spot opens later. The school system said parents had asked for the change.

Choice programs

District Choice programs include:

• International Baccalaureate
• Performing Arts
• Aviation Manufacturing and Service
• Engineering
• Welding
• Aviation
• Cosmetology, including hair, nails and barbering
• Culinary
• Medical and Allied Health
• Construction
• Automotive Repair and Collision
• Public Safety
• Logistics

The school system said there are more programs. Information is available on the district’s website and on individual school websites.

Pre-K lottery

The district’s pre-K lottery will run at the same time as the Choice application window. It requires a separate application, the school system said.
