Savannah Summer 500 interns recognized for completing paid high school internship program

by WTOC Staff

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The latest group of Summer 500 interns in Savannah were recognized for completing their summer placements.

Summer 500 is a local program connecting Savannah-area high school students with paid internship opportunities across the community. Placements range from engineering firms and the service industry to the library system.

The program is facilitated by the Savannah Chamber of Commerce along with the City of Savannah, Chatham County, and the Savannah-Chatham Public School System.

Alderwoman at Large Carol Bell said the experience gives students a foundation they can build on.

“And that’s so important, that at an early age — at 16 and 17 — they’re learning adult skills that some of our adults have not mastered,” Bell said.

The program is expected to run again next year, and students are encouraged to apply early.
