Savannah State University hosts “Pack Payne Hall” event, showcase teacher preparation programs

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah State University opened its doors Saturday afternoon to give the community a closer look at how it prepares future teachers.

The university’s Hyundai College of Education hosted “Pack Payne Hall,” bringing students, alumni and community partners together to meet faculty and explore literacy and STEM labs.

Dean Cora Thompson said the goal was to showcase the college’s programs and the opportunities available to aspiring educators.

“I want everyone to understand what is going on and what we have to offer here at Savannah State University, College of Education. We have degree programs, we have elementary education, we have middle grades, we have secondary education and music education. So it’s still working on everything that the students need, but to be creative and innovative and give our students the opportunity to learn how to become effective teachers,” Thompson said.

The event also honored military service members and recognized cancer survivors while promoting cancer awareness.
