SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A Savannah man who ran from officers during a traffic stop has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Daminason Jackson, 32, received a 57-month prison sentence, a $1,500 fine and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia.

Chief U.S. District Judge R. Stan Baker imposed the sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents and testimony, Savannah police stopped Jackson in May 2025. As officers approached his vehicle, he ran and was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

Officers found a Glock Model 31, .357-caliber pistol in his waistband. A search of the vehicle also uncovered marijuana, .357-caliber ammunition, a black ski mask and gloves.

Jackson’s previous convictions include armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, prosecutors said.

“Thanks to the swift actions of the Savannah Police Department, another dangerous weapon has been taken off our streets, and a repeat offender is returning to federal prison,” U.S. Attorney Margaret E. “Meg” Heap said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Savannah Police Department investigated the case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Karl I. Knoche prosecuted it.
