Savannah invites residents to share the history behind District 3

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah residents can help preserve the history of District 3 by sharing their personal stories, photographs and memories with the city.

The City of Savannah’s Office of Municipal Archives and History will host its 2026 District 3: Share Your Story Week from Aug. 10 through Aug. 15 at the Pennsylvania Avenue Resource Center.

The week will feature several free events, including a history lecture, an oral history training session and a “StoryRoots: Mapping Savannah’s History” information session.

Two drop-in memory collection days will also give District 3 residents an opportunity to share stories and materials that reflect the area’s history.

The event is part of the Savannah Community Memory Project, an ongoing initiative that collects and preserves community experiences as part of the city’s historical record.

Registration is required for the history lecture and oral history training session. Registration is recommended for anyone planning to attend the drop-in memory collection days.

Residents who know someone with important memories to share—or who cannot attend in person—may email Archives@SavannahGA.gov to schedule a separate recording session.
