Savannah City Hall going pink for four nights this October

by Shakuria Smith

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah City Hall will glow pink for four nights this week to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and draw attention to a fund that helps people access breast health services.

The illumination begins at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, and continues through Sunday, Oct. 25, at City Hall, 2 E. Bay St.

For the second consecutive year, the City of Savannah is partnering with St. Joseph’s/Candler Telfair Mammography Fund to light the building’s dome pink.

The effort supports the health system’s “Paint the Town Pink” fundraising campaign. The city is encouraging the public to help raise awareness and support the campaign during the four-day illumination.

Fund helps remove barriers to breast health care

The Telfair Mammography Fund provides no-cost breast health services to uninsured and underinsured individuals. Those services include screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds, MRI and image-guided breast biopsies.

According to St. Joseph’s/Candler, the fund has helped thousands of women since it was established in 2005, with support from campaigns such as “Paint the Town Pink.”

The lighting is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to recognize awareness campaigns by illuminating the City Hall dome in colors representing different causes.
