Savannah celebrates Independence Day on the waterfront

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah’s waterfront drew residents and tourists Saturday for Fourth of July celebrations that included live music, food, a patriotic costume contest and a fireworks display.
Costume contest draws family groups
A “Most Patriotically Dressed” contest was among the featured events. The winning group said the elaborate costumes are part of a family tradition.
“It’s beautiful. It’s wonderful. I love this for us, we do everything as a group and we’re all together,” said Audie Haines, who took first place in the contest.
Crowds reflect mix of locals and visitors
Attendees included Savannah residents and visitors from out of state and other countries. Deborah Coney, a Savannah resident, said the celebration reflected her personal style.
“This is me, this is the way I like to dress, sweet Georgia raised,” Coney said.
Alisha Kelley, who was visiting for the holiday, said the event brought people together.
“It’s just nice to see everybody. I feel like there are certain times that everyone just comes together and I think this is one of those times,” Kelley said.
The day’s festivities concluded with a fireworks display over the waterfront.
