Savannah celebrates 100th anniversary of Bacon Park Municipal Golf Course

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The city of Savannah and O.C. Welch Golf Properties hosted a community celebration for the 100th anniversary of Bacon Park Municipal Golf Course on Friday.
The city honored the history of the course and unveiled a memorial plaque for the late Willis “Shorty” Cooper. Cooper retired from the course after 48 years and was a beloved local mentor to Savannah youth and gifted golfer who shared his passion for the game with countless people.
The ceremony was followed by a family-friendly evening featuring live music, a food truck and a fireworks show to cap the centennial milestone.
