SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah District 6 Alderman Kurtis Purtee has been elected to the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Board of Directors, giving the city a voice on one of the state’s top municipal leadership boards.

Purtee was elected during the 2026 Georgia Municipal Association Annual Convention, held June 26-30 at the Savannah Convention Center. He will serve on the 66-member board, which helps guide the association’s legislative priorities and strategic direction for more than 536 cities across Georgia.

“I am honored to be elected to the Georgia Municipal Association board that represents over 536 cities across our great state of Georgia,” Purtee said. “This is an opportunity to bring Savannah’s voice and the priorities of our Southside neighborhoods to the table where statewide municipal policy is shaped.”

Purtee’s appointment expands his leadership at both the state and national levels. He also serves on the National League of Cities Public Safety and Crime Prevention Federal Advocacy Committee, where he has helped shape federal policy on disaster preparedness, community policing, violence prevention and emergency communications since 2022.

Now serving his second term on the Savannah City Council, Purtee has focused on community engagement, neighborhood development, infrastructure improvements and public safety. He also brings more than two decades of experience in law enforcement, fire and emergency services to the role.

The Georgia Municipal Association is the state’s only organization representing municipal governments, providing advocacy, training and technical support to cities across Georgia.
