Mobile home crushed by trees

One mobile home off Savannah Highway was crushed by several surrounding trees. Neighbors said three people were inside the mobile home when the tornado touched down. They said the owner had to be dug out of his home and was taken to the hospital.

Screven County EMA said in a post to social media that no serious injuries were sustained throughout the storms.

“Trees uprooted everywhere, powerlines down, it’s just not looking too good,” said Craig Stewart, of Sought Out Church of God and Christ.

Debris scattered across area

Debris from homes and one local church landed throughout the area. Sections of tin roof were hanging from power lines, wrapped around trees, and found across the highway into wetlands.

“It just kind of touchdown and picked up in several different areas it went through there was nowhere that a touchdown and just kept going pick up and move over a little bit and touchdown and pick up and go a little further,” said Ben Deen, a resident.

Church damaged, services canceled

Sought Out Church of God and Christ was among the properties damaged. Members said they couldn’t make it to the front door. Services are canceled Sunday.

“God does everything for a reason, so, there’s a reason behind all of this. I mean it hurts, but there’s a reason behind all of this,” said Johnny Simmons, of Sought Out Church of God and Christ.

The “S” from the church’s sign was found in the area. For members, it symbolizes the road ahead.

“For still standing, still standing yup,” said Sharonda Woods, of Sought Out Church of God and Christ.

“The lord looks after old men, and he’s got me covered,” said Ben Deen, a resident.

Storm surveys planned, cleanup underway

The National Weather Service in Charleston says it will send teams to conduct storm surveys at several locations across Bulloch and Screven counties on Sunday.

On Saturday, Screven County Public Works crews were on scene starting to clean up debris.
