Power outages reported near River Street during Independence Day Celebration

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 7/4 AT 9 P.M.] According to Mayor Van Johnson, Georgia Power reported no power outages in downtown Savannah.

[ORIGINAL STORY] According to Savannah Mayor Van Johnson, the city was experiencing power outages affecting much of the area from River Street to Liberty St. east of Abercorn St.

According to the Georgia Power outage map, more than 930 customers were affected by power outages just after 7:30 p.m.

"Georgia Power has been notified, and we are awaiting an update on the cause of the outage and the estimated time for service restoration,“ Johnson wrote. ”In the meantime, the Savannah Police Department is directing traffic at affected intersections and assisting pedestrians to ensure everyone’s safety."
