Postmarked in history: Savannah Main Post Office to celebrate America’s 250th birthday

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Before America marks its 250th anniversary with fireworks and parades, another historic celebration will happen this Thursday behind the brick walls of Savannah’s Main Post Office.

On July 2, the U.S. Postal Service invites neighbors to gather at the place where letters, postcards and packages have moved through Savannah since 1775.

Connecting friends and family through shared stories and writing, the Savannah Main Post Office is one of the original 62 post offices serving communities since 1775.

This week’s event is part of the Postal Service’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Attendees can meet with local postal employees, learn more about the office’s historic role in the community and celebrate the Postal Service’s mission of connecting people across the country, according to a press release from the U.S. Postal Service.

The celebration will start at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2 at 2 North Fahm St.
