BLUFFTON, S.C. (WTOC) - Drivers in Bluffton are being urged to avoid Simmonsville Road following a vehicle crash that caused a diesel fuel spill on Friday evening.

The Bluffton Police Department issued a traffic alert stating that the northbound lanes of Simmonsville Road are completely closed. The closure is expected to last for several hours.

Emergency and cleanup crews are currently on the scene working to contain and clean up the fuel spill to make the roadway safe for travel again.

Police are asking drivers to use alternate routes, avoid the area, and expect delays in the surrounding vicinity. Commuters are also reminded to slow down, yield, and give emergency personnel plenty of space to work safely.
