Police searching for nearly $100K in stolen artwork, instruments and valuables

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Chatham County Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating nearly $100,000 worth of items stolen from a storage unit last year.
According to police, officers responded to the Extra Space Storage facility at 330 Johnny Mercer Blvd. on Sept. 1, 2025, after receiving a report of a burglary. Investigators say a storage unit had been broken into and valuable property, including artwork, musical instruments and household items, had been stolen.
Among the missing items are three paintings valued at nearly $10,000 each.

In December 2025, detectives arrested 31-year-old Hunter Dempsey in connection with this case and other storage facility thefts. However, investigators say many of the stolen items remain missing, including the high-value paintings.
Detectives are hopeful someone may recognize the stolen property or have information that could help recover the items.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Chatham County Police Department.
Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Chatham County Police Department mobile app, the department’s online tip form or by calling Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
Police say the Chatham County Police Department remains the lead investigative agency on the case and caution that information from other sources may not be accurate.
