Osprey Village breaks ground on Ridgeland cottages for adults with disabilities

RIDGELAND, S.C. — A purpose-driven community designed for adults with physical and developmental disabilities is officially under construction in Jasper County, marking the end of an 18-year planning process.

Organizers, community leaders and local families gathered recently to break ground on the new Osprey Village cottages in Ridgeland.

Osprey Village Board Chair Rick Wedge presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, reflecting on the long road to get the project off the ground. The master-planned neighborhood is built around providing independent living, social connection and daily support services for its future residents.

For many local families in attendance, the ceremony provided a first look at the 25-acre Lowcountry property where their loved ones will live.

The neighborhood is designed to feature cozy, cottage-style duplexes and quad-plexes, complete with life skills training, community social centers and transportation services.

Project organizers plan to finish construction on the first residential cottages in May 2027.
