SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia State Patrol troopers responded at 11:40 a.m. on Oct. 2 to the area of GA-25 near Phillips Road in Liberty County for a two-vehicle crash with injuries.

According to GSP, an investigation found a Ford F-150 was traveling south on GA-25 when it failed to maintain its lane of travel and began traveling on the wrong side of the road. The F-150 hit a KIA Seltos traveling on GA-25 head-on.

After impact, GSP said the KIA Seltos overturned and the driver was trapped in the vehicle and unresponsive.

GSP said the driver of the KIA Seltos was pronounced dead on scene while being extricated by Liberty County Fire Department personnel.

Driver admits falling asleep

The driver of the F-150 told investigators he was on his way home from work and admitted he’d fallen asleep behind the wheel, according to GSP.

The crash is still being investigated, and GSP said charges are pending.

Both directions of GA-25 were shut down for a while but reopened by about 2:22 p.m. on Oct. 2.
