New senior enlisted leader assumes responsibility at Fort Stewart

FORT STEWART, Ga. (WTOC) - The incoming Garrison senior enlisted leader at Fort Stewart officially assumed responsibility during a ceremony on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Command Sgt. Maj. Stephen M. Tocco will now serve as Fort Stewart’s next garrison senior enlisted leader. Prior to this assignment, Tocco served in Germany as the battalion command sergeant major for the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment.

Tocco joins the garrison leadership team alongside Garrison Commander Col. Gabe Weaver.

Tocco, a cavalry scout by trade who has spent much of his military career in the Southeast, emphasized his commitment to supporting military families during his address.

“I understand what it’s like to be away from home,” Tocco said. “I understand what it’s like to leave a family behind while we’re doing Army missions. And to be able to provide some security and some stability to make it easier to sleep at night and knowing your family’s taken care of, your housing is taken care of... that’s worth exponential peace of mind.”

Tocco noted that ensuring stable housing and family support on the home front is critical for soldiers to successfully focus on their deployments and missions.
