Murdaugh co-conspirator sentenced to federal prison
HAMPTON COUNTY, SC. (WTOC) - The man accused of being Alex Murdaugh’s co-conspirator has been sentenced to federal prison.
The Department of Justice says former banker Russell Laffitte will spend time behind bars for five years.
This comes after he pled guilty to conspiracy to commit wire and bank fraud as well as misapplication of bank funds.
Laffitte was previously an officer at executive at Palmetto State Bank in Hampton County.
The DOJ says he admitted he agreed to serve as conservator and personal representative for several of Murdaugh’s clients knowing he would personally profit from it.
The judge ordered the 60-month sentence to be followed by a three-year term of supervision.
Laffitte will also have to pay fines.
