Multiple tornadoes confirmed in Screven County Saturday afternoon

SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes in Screven County Saturday. The first touched down near Halcyondale around 2:33 p.m.; the second was reported just northwest of Newington around 3:17 p.m.

Preliminary reports to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center said numerous trees and power poles were down near Old Savannah Highway and Highway 21, with damage spanning about 200 yards. A separate report said trees fell on a mobile home; no injuries were reported there.




The reports are preliminary, and the Storm Prediction Center lists the tornado’s rating as unknown.
