Memorial Health hosts event for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Saturday, Memorial Health held a drug take-back event at the YMCA in Pooler.

In partnership with West Chatham YMCA and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, they collected 178 pounds of expired and unused medications, safely removing them from the streets.

“Thank you to our community members who dropped off unused and unwanted medication for safe and proper disposal, helping us #CrushtheCrisis on prescription drug misuse. Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem in the U.S. Since 2019, our prescription drug take back events have collected more than 1,250 pounds of medications that could have been misused and abused," wrote Memorial Health in a social media post.
