Memorial bench and oak tree dedicated to Anita Boutwell

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Chatham County leaders honored a late community activist remembered for her bold spirit.
Community members joined them on Saturday morning at L. Scott Stell Park for the unveiling of a memorial bench and oak tree in honor of Anita Boutwell, who was devoted to the west Chatham Co. community for years.
She founded the West Chatham County Community Watch Committee, giving residents a platform to voice concerns and advocate for their neighborhood.
“We’re here today to celebrate her and her accomplishments with this community and rallying the community to stand firm and against anyone who dare to threaten the community,” said John Boutwell, her son and the person who designed and built the memorial bench.
The oak tree was donated and planted by the Savannah Tree Foundation.
Boutwell passed away in 2023.
