Man shot, killed in attempted armed robbery at Ridgeland barber shop

RIDGELAND, Sc. (WTOC) - A man was shot and killed while attempting to rob Jay’s Barbershop in Ridgeland, South Carolina.

At about 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 18, the Ridgeland Police Department responded to an armed robbery at Jay’s Barbershop. When officers arrived, they found 55-year-old Curtis Edward Scott had been shot and passed away from his injuries.

Investigators determined Scott entered Jay’s Barbershop through a back door wearing a ski mask and carrying a machete, intending to rob an employee.

An employee of the store, who is also a legal firearm owner, pulled out a pistol and shot Scott in the chest. Scott made it to his car after being shot and collapsed next to the car.

Police says another man was behind Scott wearing a mask and a hoodie. That man ran out of the business and police are continuing to search for him.

The Ridgeland Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
