Jansasoy pleaded not guilty to charges in the death of Michael Daniel Sharpe after the district attorney’s office reindicted him about a week ago on several of the same charges he previously faced.

Reindictment changes road name

Jansasoy is accused of hitting and killing Sharpe in Effingham County on May 1. He faces several charges, including homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and driving without a valid driver’s license.

A prosecutor with the district attorney’s office Renorda Herring said there were specific reasons for reindicting Jansasoy, but said she was unable to provide clarification to media on why.

A review of both indictments showed them appearing very similar, with one key difference identified — the name of the road changing from Chimney Road to Old Augusta Road South.

Jansasoy and his defense attorney signed and pleaded not guilty to the new indictment.

“The not guilty plea has been entered, reserving our rights for a trial,” the defense attorney said.

Next court date set

Jansasoy is expected back in court Dec. 15 for a plea hearing.
