Man arrested in Savannah homicide investigation

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A man has been arrested in connection with a Savannah homicide investigation.

Jail bookings reveal Jamir Rashad Lewis was arrested on July 2, 2026, and charged with murder-party to a crime.

SPD officers responded to 10614 Abercorn Street on May 31, 2026, in reference to a shooting.

25-year-old LaShawn Foster was killed.

Midday around 2:30 p.m. Shots were fired at the Suburban Studios on Abercorn, an extended stay motel. Savannah Police arrived at the scene and found Foster who had been shot. He died later at the hospital.

The investigation suggests the victim was known to the suspect, according to law enforcement. They had met to conduct a transaction. Both subjects were armed when the shooting happened.

According to Foster’s obituary, he was born and raised in Savannah, Foster worked as a driver and was remembered by loved ones for a kind, generous spirit. Foster was preceded in death by their father and is survived by their mother, four children—including a daughter due to be born in two months—two brothers, three sisters, extended family members, and two grandfathers.

More details are expected to be released by Savannah PD in the coming hours.
