Man accused of killing Wilmington Island teen appears in court as autopsy gap delays case

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The man accused of stabbing and killing a Wilmington Island teenager last October appeared in court Friday.

Delano Middleton faces charges including felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing death of J.T. Schroeder outside a Wilmington Island Walmart.

No autopsy performed before cremation

Both the prosecution and defense requested a continuance after it was determined no autopsy was performed on Schroeder’s body before he was cremated.

Middleton’s defense attorney said she plans to subpoena the doctor who completed a one-paragraph forensics examination that was conducted in place of a full autopsy report.

The judge granted the continuance. The case may not be heard again until fall, according to the judge.
