Lane on Bay Street reopens following utility repair work

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 9/25/2026 AT 10:10 a.m.] A traffic lane on Bay Street reopened in downtown Savannah following utility repair work, according to the City of Savannah.

The center lanes on Bay Street between Drayton Street and Bull Street temporarily closed earlier this week due to utility repair work mobilized and staged on East Bay Street.

The city said utility repairs were completed Thursday, Sept. 24. All lanes are open to traffic. The City of Savannah said it appreciates residents’ patience and understanding during all construction projects aimed at improving the safety and sustainability of the city.

The City of Savannah said it will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.

[ORIGINAL STORY 9/20/2026] A traffic lane is closed in both directions of Bay Street in downtown Savannah between Drayton Street and Bull Street until further notice for utility repair work.

The City of Savannah said motorists should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes during the closure.
