Jubilee Sky fireworks show returns to Daffin Park for Juneteenth celebration

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The annual Jubilee Sky fireworks show returned to Daffin Park on Saturday after being rained out in June, drawing crowds for a day of live music, food, local vendors, and a fireworks finale.
Alderman Detric Leggett, who served as event host, dubbed the rescheduled celebration “Juneteenth Reloaded.”
‘The hottest thing in town’
“This is the best party, we’re the hottest thing in town,” Leggett said. “So we’re having a good time, bringing everybody out, and we can really show people that we’re resilient.”
Leggett said the event was centered on community.
“Every vendor, every young person, even some of our seniors come out, get a little history, and at the same time showing how the community can come together,” he said.
T-shirt design contest
Leading up to the event, children were invited to participate in a T-shirt design contest. JJ Duncan won the competition and saw his design produced in time for Saturday’s celebration.
“It really means something special to me,” Duncan said. When asked what his reaction looked like upon learning he had won, Duncan said: “Me jumping off the walls.”
Fireworks close out the night
Some rain moved in during the evening but did not delay the fireworks show. The event was the final celebration in Savannah’s Juneteenth Fine Arts Festival and is scheduled to return next year.
