IRS offering in-person tax help in Hazlehurst

HAZLEHURST, Ga. (WTOC) - The Internal Revenue Service will open a temporary assistance center in Hazlehurst to help taxpayers address account concerns in person.

The IRS Community Assistance Visit will be held Tuesday, July 28, through Thursday, July 30, at the Hazlehurst Public Library, located at 189 East Jarman Street. Assistance will be available each day from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

No appointment is required. Taxpayers should bring a current government-issued photo ID, relevant IRS letters or notices and any requested documents.

IRS employees will assist with:

Account questions, notices and levies
Tax account or payment adjustments
Basic federal tax law questions
Payment arrangements
Identity verification
Tax transcripts and forms
IRS online resources and tools

Because the library is a temporary assistance location, employees cannot accept payments. Taxpayers are encouraged to make payments online.

Tax professionals, attorneys and tax preparers may also attend with clients to address account-related issues.

Telephone interpretation will be available in several languages. People who are deaf or hard of hearing can call 800-829-4059 to schedule an appointment for sign-language interpretation.

Those unable to attend the Hazlehurst event can call 844-545-5640 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to schedule an appointment at another IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center.
