Human remains found at Chatham County construction site

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Chatham County Police Department is investigating after human remains were found at a construction site in the East President Street/Wahlstrom Road area.
On Sunday, the Chatham County Police Department received a tip that human remains were visible at the construction site. Patrol officers and detectives responded and determined the remains were most likely historical or archaeological in nature and not part of a crime scene.
The Chatham County Coroner was called to the site and took possession of the remains. CCPD said the Coroner’s Office will make the final determination as to whether the findings should be treated as criminal or archaeological in nature.
The State of Georgia’s archaeologist and the construction company have been notified. All construction at the site has been stopped while the investigation is underway.
