Historic sites mark 250th Independence Day with old-fashioned celebrations

MIDWAY, Ga. (WTOC) - Sister sites Fort Morris Historic Site and McAllister State Historic Park hosted Independence Day Celebrations.
Fort Morris Historic Site in Midway hosted black powder demonstrations, living history programs, and classic games with free admission Saturday morning.
Fort McAllister State Park in Richmond Hill took over from 4 to 7 p.m., featuring living history demos, musket round-making, and an artillery display.
“For the first time and 250th only, there will be a special visit from Claude-Étienne Minié, the French military instructor and inventor famous for solving the problem of designing a reliable muzzle-loading rifle by inventing the Minié ball in 1849, and the Minié rifle in 1849,” organizers wrote.
