Hilton Head’s free Breeze Trolley makes July 4 stop change for fireworks

by Shakuria Smith

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, Sc. (WTOC) - People planning to celebrate Independence Day at Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina can still take the Breeze Free-Fare Trolley, but officials are asking riders to plan ahead for a temporary stop relocation and heavier-than-normal traffic.

Palmetto Breeze announced the free trolley will operate on its normal schedule Saturday, July 4.

However, Stop 2 at Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina will not be accessible during the holiday festivities.

Instead, riders should use the temporary Stop 2 location at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, 14 Shelter Cove Lane.

After the fireworks, the trolley will continue operating approximately every 60 minutes, though officials say delays are expected because of heavy event traffic.

Palmetto Breeze encourages riders to choose transportation plans that work best for their group, especially families with young children and people with limited mobility.

Officials also recommend wearing light-colored clothing and bringing a flashlight for the walk back after the fireworks, noting that some streets and pedestrian areas may be dark.

Attendees are encouraged to allow extra travel time, remain alert while walking or biking and be patient as large crowds leave the event.

Additional parking and shuttle service

To help reduce congestion around Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina, organizers will offer free parking and shuttle service from Hilton Head Island Community Church, located at 860 William Hilton Parkway.

The shuttle will operate continuously from 5:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., transporting riders to and from the Neptune Statue near Shelter Cove Harbour.

Palmetto Breeze also reminds riders its administrative office will be closed Friday, July 3, and encourages anyone with questions to plan ahead before the holiday weekend.
