Ground broken on new gym, campus upgrades at Riverview Charter School

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - A major expansion project is officially underway at Riverview Charter School in Beaufort County after district leaders broke ground on a brand-new gymnasium.

The construction is part of the voter-approved 2023 bond referendum, which has previously funded several STEM facilities and infrastructure upgrades across the district.

At Riverview Charter School, the project will deliver a new gym while also funding renovations to the school’s existing gymnasium on campus.

School leaders envision the new facility serving as both the foundation for a larger athletic complex and a central gathering space for students, staff, and families.

“It’s going to serve as the start of our new athletic complex we are trying to develop, but more so it’s going to serve as a central hub for our entire school community,” Riverview Charter School Executive Director Davontae Singleton said.

Singleton noted that excitement across campus is already building as work begins.

“The students are excited. Every day they come in, a new part of the gym is being built,” Singleton said. “For me, it just lets me know that the energy and momentum is there, and now we just want to see it all the way through so we can enjoy it as well.”

Construction is slated for completion by spring 2028.
