Georgia Power begins grid upgrades in Savannah neighborhoods

by Shakuria Smith

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia Power has started a grid enhancement project in Savannah’s Tremont Park and Cloverdale neighborhoods.

The company says the project is designed to improve power reliability and resilience for about 1,300 customers.

Work includes replacing existing poles with a mix of wood, modular composite and self-supporting concrete poles designed to better withstand extreme weather. Georgia Power says new power lines will also be installed, with some lines rerouted to make future maintenance easier.

Drivers may see temporary traffic impacts during construction along parts of ACL Boulevard, Mills B. Lane, Tremont Road, Ogeechee Road, Cynthia Street, Stiles Avenue, nearby side streets and the Cloverdale subdivision.

Georgia Power crews will be working along roads and in the right-of-way. Drivers are urged to use caution in construction areas.

Customers in the affected area will be notified in advance. Georgia Power says crews will restore the area once work is complete. If any planned outages are needed for safety, customers will also receive advance notice.
