Georgia Power, Savannah prepare for storm impacts

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia Power and Savannah emergency officials are preparing for possible impacts from Hurricane Isaias, including rain, gusty winds and power outages.
Georgia Power says crews are on standby across the state, its storm center in Atlanta is activated, and the company is coordinating with local officials and emergency responders.
Savannah is not expecting a direct hit, but the storm is drawing moisture from the Atlantic, said David Donnelly, a Savannah emergency management officer.
“We’re not being directly impacted by the storm, but we are seeing effects from it,” Donnelly said. “It’s large enough that it’s pulling in moisture off the Atlantic.”
City officials expect 2 to 3 inches of rain and some gusty winds. Crews are clearing drainage trouble spots, and police and fire personnel are ready to respond, Donnelly said.
Georgia Power spokesperson Joshua Peacock said the utility is prepared to respond to outages. Customers should report outages and stay away from downed power lines and trees near power lines, he said.
“Just stay away from that infrastructure and contact us,” Peacock said.
Donnelly also urged families to review their emergency plans and check that their emergency supplies are ready.
