Georgia Ports: no toxic substances found after dead birds prompt response at Garden City terminal

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 12:11 p.m. on Oct. 7] The Chief Communications Officer with Georgia Ports confirmed to WTOC that Savannah and Garden City Fire Department’s responded to test the air on the Garden City Terminal after they discovered dead domestic migratory birds.
According to Georgia Port officials, the fire departments did not find any toxic substances in air or on-site and gave the all clear.
All terminal operations have resumed, according to Georgia Port officials.
[ORIGINAL STORY] The Savannah Fire Department is responding to a hazmat scene at the Port of Savannah on Wednesday morning, confirmed the department.
Savannah Fire said they do not have access to information sharing the time they were dispatched, the reason for the dispatch or if the port is closed. The department did confirm they are working with the Garden City Fire Department and the Georgia Ports Authority at the scene.
