Georgia offering free fishing days during National Fishing and Boating Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is encouraging families across the state to get outdoors and celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week from June 6-14.

According to the Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division, the annual event highlights fishing and boating opportunities across Georgia while encouraging people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors.

As part of the celebration, Georgia residents will be able to fish public waters for free on Saturday, June 6, and Saturday, June 13, without needing a fishing license, trout license or Lands Pass.

“There is no better time to enjoy Georgia’s incredible fishing and boating opportunities than during National Fishing and Boating Week,” said Scott Robinson, chief of the WRD Fisheries Management Section. “Whether you are introducing a child to their first fishing trip, spending time with friends and family, or simply enjoying a quiet morning on the water, fishing and boating create lasting memories while supporting conservation through outdoor recreation.”

DNR officials said families can also participate in fishing events and educational activities happening across the state during the weeklong celebration. Children can also explore online activities through the Angler Academy program if they are unable to get outdoors.

Georgia offers a variety of fishing locations, including trout streams, rivers, reservoirs, neighborhood ponds and coastal waters. Officials also encourage families to visit one of Georgia’s 11 Public Fishing Areas or explore fishing opportunities at state parks.
