GBI asked to investigate Chatham County officer over Flock license plate reader misuse

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Chatham County Police Department said they asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate potential misuse of Flock License Plate Readers by a Chatham County Police Department officer.

According to CCPD, on Aug. 31, 2026, a Chatham County Police Department officer submitted a resignation immediately upon being questioned about the potential misuse of the Flock License Plate Reader system.

Police said the activity in question happened in late 2024 and during the first two weeks of January 2025. Law enforcement said the activity was not detected during CCPD’s internal license plate reader audits, which date back to Jan. 1, 2025.

“Our policy on the use of License Plate Readers was clear to every officer before we activated this technology in 2020,” said Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley. “Public trust is of the utmost importance to the Chatham County Police Department, and misuse of any law enforcement technology will not be tolerated.”
